Watch TV for Homework

5th graders in Ms. Terry's Reading class were asked to
"Watch T.V. for homework!"

They could choose a cartoon or a family sitcom. Some of the shows that they chose to watch were Phineas and Ferb, High School Musical, Spongebob, and Suite Life on Deck, Zack and Cody, and Zeke and Luther.

Students wrote about the characters, problem of the story, rising action, climax, and resolution. This was a fun assignment and everyone who participated seemed to enjoy "watching T.V. for homework!"

Great job students!

What We Are Learning in Reading and Math

Our unit theme in Reading is: Meeting Challenges
What challenges have you faced in your life?

Our first story is Frindle

The excerpt we will read is about how a boy meets the challenges of coming to a new grade and having a new teacher.

In math we are learning about place value. You will need to know how to write numbers in expanded form, how to round decimals, and understand the difference between value and place value.

Did you know you can find activities like we use on the SmartBoard online?
http://exchange.smarttech.com/search.html?q=%22place%20value%22
Here is a link to some activities that you can try out at home, just click "preview".

Best of luck this week!

Ozark City Blows AYP Out of the Water!

Despite a reduced staff and being in proration, Ozark City Schools still excelled in EVERY area, at EVERY school, making Anual Yearly Progress (AYP) according to No Child Left Behind standards. This accomplishment speaks very highly of our teachers, staff, and students because the standard for reachin AYP increases every year.

Our upcoming fourth graders not only met the AYP standards in Reading and Math, they scored well above the required percentage. Over half of our students scored a '4' on the Reading section, a '3' being considered proficient and a '4' considered mastery.

Congratulations to our students! Great Job!
